Golfer Pacific Best Ball Challenge Million Dollar Madness
The richest tournament in Australian and New Zealand club golf has arrived
CLUB golfers. . . get excited!
The biggest and richest event for Australasian club golf has arrived. Starting in April the Golfer Pacific Best Ball Challenge will see an anticipated 20,000 club golfers across Australia and New Zealand compete for more than a million dollars in prizes.
Golf clubs have been sent an invitation to host a round of the Golfer Pacific Best Ball on a day of their choice between April and August. Only golfers with an official handicap are eligible to compete and the combined maximum handicap for the two players cannot be higher than 45. Organisers have learnt from other nationally run amateur tournaments and put in place strict controls for handicap checking and scoring integrity. Having another team to mark your card and apply the rules of golf is a big advantage.
Golfer Pacific’s general manager, Leigh Smith is delighted to be supporting club golf through the Golfer Pacific Best Ball Challenge.
“After 33 years of publishing Australia and New Zealand’s biggest golf publication we have banded together with industry leaders TaylorMade - adidas Golf, MGI/SureShot along with a host of other great sponsors to present a golf series that gives back to golf clubs, club professionals and most importantly, to our readers – the club golfers,” Smith said.
A one-off entry fee of $40 is payable at club events (note golf clubs at their discretion may reserve the right to charge a green fee). No additional fees are payable for teams qualifying for regional and national finals. All players will receive a sleeve of three TaylorMade golf balls and will qualify to share in over $500 worth of TaylorMade prizes if there’s 50 players, and over $1400 in prizes if there is a minimum of 90 players in the field. Club events with a minimum of 25 teams (50 players) will have one team qualify for the regional final, while club events with at least 45 teams (90 players) will see two teams qualify.
All participants in the Golfer Pacific Best Ball Challenge automatically go in the draw for $325,000 in prizes. The monster prize draw will take place during the national final. A brand new Mitsubishi Lancer, E-Z-GO golf car, overseas golf tours to New Zealand, Fiji and Bali are among the incredible array of prizes on offer. Consolation prizes include 50 luxury golf escapes, 30 Sureshot GPS units, 3000 golf gift vouchers and much, much more.
The regional finals will be hosted at premier resort courses in September. There will be 24 regional final venues throughout Australia and six in New Zealand.
The regional finals will again be an 18-hole best ball stableford event with golf carts being an added bonus for all players.
The winning team at each of the regional finals will qualify for the national final on the Gold Coast from October 24-30.
The National Final will be hosted in conjunction with Australia’s biggest and richest amateur tournament, the Mitsubishi Motors World Masters Golf Championship. The national final will be a four-round, 72-hole best ball stableford event with rounds at The Glades, Lakelands, The Colonial and Palm Meadows.
In addition to the golfing competition, national finalists will receive seven nights deluxe accommodation at Radisson Resort Gold Coast. Every night there are social and entertainment functions with a poolside welcome reception and gala presentation dinner the highlights. Everything is provided for the national finalists, including golf carts, transfers, gift packs, *souvenir shirts and more.
Radisson Resort Gold Coast’s general manager, Gerard Knight couldn’t hide his excitement at being able to host the national final.
“We look forward to putting on a great week for the national finalists who will be staying in our luxury golf view rooms,” Knight said.
“As the home of Gold Coast Golf the resort courses are in close proximity while the beaches, attractions and casino are just minutes away.”
Everyone’s a winner as every club is set to benefit from the $220,000 in prizes TaylorMade has committed to the Golfer Pacific Best Ball Challenge. Jane Price, marketing manager for TaylorMade - adidas Golf told Golfer Pacific that they were keen to be associated with a national golf series.
“We like the event concept and applaud the measures being taken to ensure a level playing field and scoring integrity,” Price said.
