WHEN executives of the golf course located at Pelican Waters realised the name of their golf club might be emitting an air of ‘stuffiness’, they decided on a retrospective course of action.
They changed the name. And they changed the name back to what it was. From April 15 Club Pelican became Pelican Waters Golf Club - again.
When launched in 2000 the Greg Norman-designed Sunshine Coast course was initially named Pelican Waters Golf but underwent a name change – to Club Pelican – concurrent with a change of ownership in 2004.
And Pelican Waters general manager Tim Gall said the latest name change was calculated to improve the connection with the Pelican Waters community and at the same time hopefully provide a boost for business.
“By being known as Club Pelican we were separated from the Pelican Waters community and as such – from a business perspective - could not leverage off the brand or leverage off the estate,” he said.
“Just as importantly now we are again recognised purely as a golf club and an affordable golf course. As Club Pelican I believe there was some confusion and even the stigma we were exclusive and as such, expensive.”
Pelican Waters Golf Club is one of the most highly rated in Australia. It has been named one of the top 25 resorts courses in the country by Golf Australia and was also ranked in the top 100 Australian courses by Golf Digest.
